Name of School: HADJI SALIK KALAING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Population SY 2016 to 2017: 545 pupils from all levels
The school is named after the late, Hadji Salik Kalaing, a local chieftain in Barangay Tukanalipao. His daughter, Bayang S. Kadatuan, donated parcel of her inherited land from him as the site for the school. Through the coordination and support of the Expanded Local School Board of Mamasapano and the community, the school was established in the year 2006. The school started its operation as incomplete primary school with a single grade, Grade 1. There was one teacher handling 98 pupils in a parents-teachers association (PTA)-established classroom.
Based on the school’s School Improvement Plan (SIP), Barangay Tukanalipao is classified as rural and is Muslim-dominated and majority of the members of the community are Maguindanaon. The primary means of livelihood of the people are agriculture/forestry and fishery. The basic social infrastructure and services present in the community are public elementary school, community health center/station, botika sa barangay, and electricity.
Teachers have not undergone trainings based on their identified training needs yet. They lack the opportunities to join seminars and conferences because of the lack of funds and the teachers are not trained to expand their competencies.
In addition, Hadji Salik Kalaing Elementary School is located in Brgy. Tukanalipao, Mamasapano, Maguindanao where the infamous Mamasapano incident in 2015 took place.
For the next three years (2015 to 2018), the school targets to achieve the following:
- To encourage all school aged children to attend class ( increase number of enrollment and decrease drop-out rate).
- To enhance the academic performance of teachers.
- To strengthen the governance and linkages of stakeholders.
