AFP, JCI Manila, Teach Peace Build Peace Movement hold summer peace camp
(Manila, Philippines, April 11, 2013) – The best peace heroes are made through meaningful encounters. Such is the takeaway of the Summer Peace Camp 2014: The Culture of Peace Adventure organized by the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Manila, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Teach Peace Build Peace Movement (TPBPM).
The peace camp is geared toward building a culture of peace and understanding among the younger generations through intercultural activities incorporating music, theatre, sports, and environmental stewardship among others. It aims to provide an avenue where Filipino children can interact with one another despite differences in culture, ethnicity, and religion.
The organizers recognize the importance of teaching peace in the formative years of a child using inter-religious, intercultural and intergenerational approach. Thus, the peace camp is designed with various stations: Teach Peace Build Peace through Music and Theater Arts, Teach Peace Build Peace through Art, Teach Peace Build Peace through Environmental Stewardship, and Teach Peace Build Peace through Sports specifically football and basketball.
The Summer Peace Camp 2014 will be held on April 11 at the AFP Grandstand.
